Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow?

I am having my hair done tomorrow and the great hair debate continues.  Do I cut it or do I grow it?  Highlights?  Natural color? My mom started out "frosting" our hair (my sister and I) in middle school and since then I have always had something different going on with my hair! My hair has been almost every color from platinum blonde to black and it seems that I as soon as I get used to one style or color I am ready for the next.  Does anyone have this problem too?

I am trying to decide (again) if I should continue to grow out my hair or if I should go ahead and chop it back off and keep it short.  I like long hair and would LOVE for it to be long and beautiful like all of the celebrities but I have been informed by my stylist (my sister) that although my hair may eventually (a long time from now) grow out to be the length I desire, it will never be anywhere near the thickness that is required to pull off the long hair look.  After she told me that, it was kind of freeing in a way.  I was able to let go of this vision that I have always had for my hair and embrace the short style.  I actually think that the short bob type style fits my personality better.  Spunky.

So in deciding what I want to do with my hair this time I am keeping in mind that shorter is easier to maintain as well as the fact that the time I am now able to spend on my hair has been cut short. Seriously short. Everett doesn't really see the need for me to blow dry and straighten my hair every day or even every other day.  So this hairstyle has to be a "wash and go" style that will look good right out of the shower every day.  This proves to be frustrating because I have "swavy" hair- it's not straight but it's not wavy. Grrr! So this hairstyle needs to accentuate my natural "swaves" so that I don't look like a hot mess every day.

So I am thinking that since fall is coming (it's not here yet but it will be soon) I will probably go with a darker color and probably a shorter more "shaggy" type style.  Here are a few photos of the style that I think I am going to go for. But who really knows... I might change my mind five times before tomorrow!

My Sister the Superstar

If you know Tyler and I you probably know that we are huge Washington Capitals fans. We have been going to games together for the past four years and really enjoy getting into the games.

What's up Ovi?
So what does this have to do with my sister?  Well, I am proud to "announce" that my sister is a Washington Capitals Red Rocker cheerleader!  She auditioned for this team this past weekend and made the cut! I am so excited for her and to have one more reason to go to more Caps games!

Buzzzzzzz

Tyler decided that he wanted to buzz his hair off since it's starting to get warmer.  I guess he wanted something low maintenance. So instead of having- oh I don't know my sister (a hairdresser) or a barber cut his hair he decided he wanted me to do it.  He said that since we are "hippies" now I need to be able to cut his hair.  (We're not really hippies, more "crunchy" I'd say.)  I agreed to cut his hair only because I figured it would be interesting to blog about (especially if I messed it up!)

My sister gave me a few tips before I started and I thought I'd share just in case you need to buzz someone's head! :)

1. When using the trimmers to block off the back of a men's haircut, start in the middle and work to each side.  Do this to ensure you cut a straight line.

2. When using the trimmers to cut around the ears it is important to keep one finger stationary on the head and pivot the trimmers around the ear.  This will prevent you from cutting the hair to high over the ears.  Additionally, this will make it easier to ensure that both sides are identical.

3. When using clippers and guards to perform a men's haircut you have to go against the direction of the hair growth.  The teeth of the guard will help to lift the hair while the blades of the clippers alternate cutting the hair that has been lifted.  You will have to go over each section of the head a few times to ensure that you haven't missed any spots!

Before: Super cheesy smile! :)
Caution: there are about 50 things that I could complain about in this picture below (the size of my schnoz for one) so please beware!
During: I look so serious!
After: Yes he does have clothes on... or does he? (Yes, he really does! We're crunchy, not nudists!)

I'll be booking appointments starting nex... JUST KIDDING!! :)   If you are looking for a stylist in the Northern Virginia area please check out Reflections of You Salon and be sure to ask for Rebecca!

Daily Happenings: 4/16/12

While strolling through Target yesterday (yes, it's almost a daily thing these days) my sister pointed out the "Family Size Pool" and mentioned that we should buy it even though I already purchase E his own baby sized pool!  Rebecca and I went back and forth for a few minutes and decided that I'd buy the big pool and she would buy E balls for his baby pool so he could have a ball pit. DEAL!

We got home, got out the compressor and blew the pool up, and then put the hose in to fill it.
Waiting "patiently" for the pool to fill up!
Excitement ensued until we put our toes in and it was COLD!! Ugh. Hose water in April= refreshing FREEZING! My friend Gina and her son Joshua came over to "swim" too so we let the boys put their feet in and they were so thrilled!  They didn't even care about the cold water! Aunt Becca graciously boiled four pots of water and added it to the pool which warmed it up to a nice, less chilly temperature.

Splish splash!
Hanging out in the pool!
"This is fun mom!"
The boys had a blast splashing around and playing and it was nice to let them get out and play while the weather was warm!  (I may or may not have sat in the pool with E... to supervise of course!)
Love this little boy!

After we finished playing in the pool E was definitely ready for a nap which gave Aunt Rebecca and I time to set up his new ball pit!
Clive tested it out first!

Everett wasn't so sure about it at first but after he warmed up he got so excited! I think that it will definitely be something that he plays with over and over! Doesn't he look so cute in the ball pit?!

Mesmerized!
