Reflections

Why I love nap time...

I don't love nap time because I "get a break" or because "I need some mommy time," I love nap time because it is the perfect opportunity for Everett and I to just be together. For me to remember the days when he was a tiny baby. I love nap time because we cuddle and sleep away the worries of the day. Nap time means a fresh start to the afternoon. Nap time is a time to connect and be simply together. I love to see how peacefully he sleeps, how that paci falls out, and how he looks just like an angel. I love when he wakes up and looks around, sees me and smiles, yawns and stretches, and then cuddles closer and falls back to sleep.

We don't get to nap together often because I usually have things that "have to get done," but when we do, it is perfect.

Daily Happenings: 7/28/12

Today was a great day! Tyler, Everett, and I got to spend the morning with my dad, Ty's dad, and Ty's uncle. It was great to have some family time with them. Then Tyler, E, and I headed over to Castiglia's for some pizza (it's so good there!)

After lunch we headed out to Gina and Robbie's house to celebrate Joshua's birthday!! It was great to see our friends and to see Everett play with so many other kids! Joshua is one of Everett's best buddies! :)

After the party we got some stuff done around the house and watched some tv! All around fun times!

What were you up to today?

Lessons from the Mount: Week Two Recap

I hope you have been reading the Sermon on the Mount with me these past two weeks! If you have, I would love to hear any of your thoughts. How has God worked in your life these past two weeks?
Matthew 6: 33-34

I believe I am so much more aware of how God has been working in my life and my families lives now that I am more faithfully reading His word. He has such a wonderful plan for all of us and it is so wonderful to clearly see how He has been with us every step of the way. There is so much going on with us right now, which I will share in an upcoming post, but God has truly blessed us. I must admit this past week I have faltered a little bit in my reading, but I know that is sometimes how life goes.

Here is a passage that has really stuck out for me this past week, it really has helped me to be more at peace with our future. :)

Is that you Daddy?

Everett doesn't watch too much tv... not because I think it's "horrible" or anything but because we are usually too busy playing or running errands to turn it on.  This morning I put on Blue's Clues for Everett for the first time and he LOVED it.  He especially loved when Joe came on.. too much. He started saying "Daddy?!" Too cute!

Letters to Everett: 7/22/12

Dear Everett,

You are growing up to be such a great little boy! I think you classify as a "toddler" now! You are babbling about all sorts of things and really expecting us to understand what you are saying! You started walking this past month but you still prefer to crawl most of the time. You like to crouch down and inspect everything and then usually you put everything in your mouth. Yuck!

You finally have more teeth! You have four on the bottom now but still just two up top. I can see two more up there that are about to break through! We started brushing your teeth this month, you've even got your very own Tom's toothpaste!

Here's what you've been up to this past month:
06/29/12: When asked what a dog says, you say "Woo woo"
06/29/12: First time we ordered you something off the kids menu
06/29/12: Took your first "unforced" steps
07/02/12: You officially started walking today!
07/13/12: You got to ride the rides at Fun Land today!
07/17/12: First time you brushed your teeth (with toothpaste)
07/17/12: First time you asked daddy for a kiss

Momma and daddy love you to the moon and all the way back silly boy!

Love always,
Momma

Nats Game

Went to the Nats game tonight! We had a blast!  Thanks so much to Tyler's company for inviting us (and all of their employees) out to the ballpark tonight! :)

Currently: 7/20/12

Reading: Matthew 5, 6, and 7 (also known as The Sermon on the Mount) three times daily.  This is really helping me to get back into daily Bible reading and aiding me in understanding more about the love that God has for all of us. I plan on reading it 3x a day for a month. Read my first week recap here.

Thinking About: New and exciting things that may be in Tyler, Everett, and I's future. There is nothing set in stone as of yet so there is nothing to share (sorry)!  If you think about saying a prayer for our little family and any changes that may or may not be coming in the near (to distant) future, we would appreciate it!

Loving: This new stage Everett is in! He is such a little explorer baby and wants to check out everything. This is of course the most frustrating of stages because it seems he can get into everything that we don't want him to! We have baby proofed some of the house- the cabinets that I don't want to continually clean up and we have gates everywhere which have helped to contain little Mr. Explorer.

Listening To: I do love me some country music! Especially during the summer when I can roll down the windows, turn the radio up, and sing out loud and proud! :)  Tyler and I are pretty big Brantley Gilbert fans and I do enjoy this song a lot...

Anticipating: Our summer vacations that are coming up! We are headed out to the Outer Banks with Krystal, Aaron, and Colt and then back to Grandma's house with Tyler's mom, step-dad, and two of his sisters all in the month of August! It will be nice to get to be on vacation with Tyler especially since he has been working a lot this summer!

Working On: Thinking of more ideas for the blog.. anyone have any? I have been trying to keep it interesting and a good mix of life, Everett, points of view, etc. Am I boring you? Anyone? Bueller? Buller? Bueller?

What have you been currently up to?

Lessons from the Mount: First Week Recap

If you have been reading the Sermon on the Mount with me this past week you will have read it a total of 21 times so far! Kudos to the commitment that those of you who are following along with me have made! I pray that you will continue to read along with me and that God will work in your life through these three chapters!

So far I have noticed a couple of things that I wanted to share. The first is that there are so so so many songs based on the words from these chapters. The lessons that Jesus gives us here are very important and are easily sewn into the lyrics of many old and new Christian songs. I love that whenever I am listening to the radio or at church I can hear a line in a song and pin point where it came from.

The second thing that I have noticed while reading through these chapters is how "simple" these principles are to follow yet how hard we are seem to make them out to be.

What have you found while reading the Sermon on the Mount? If you haven't committed to reading with me, what's stopping you?  Join in and share your thoughts!

Nap Time Craft Time: Bow Picture Frame

As promised an easy "Nap Time Craft Time" activity.  So easy you can complete this project during nap time! This project can also most likely be completed with items you already have at home! Simple, cute, and free?! I know, awesome right!

Let me start by apologizing for the picture quality! It was a spur of the moment idea and my camera was in the room with the napping baby!  Now on to the craft!

I watch little Miss Lillian a couple days a week. When her daddy drops her off she is always looking super cute but... well let's just say he isn't a hair stylist! So I decided to grab a pack of bows from Target (my favorite place) to keep at our house for her. So then I got to thinking about all those cute bow holder thingys that I always see all over Pinterest and various craft blogs so I thought that I should come up with something. So here we are!  Check it out!

Here's what you'll need:
  • 1 picture frame
  • Scrap fabric (enough to cover the glass)
  • A few ribbons
  • Painters tape (or hot glue)
  • Scissors

First lay the fabric out and place the glass or cardboard from your picture frame on top of it. Cut the fabric with about 1" around the perimeter of the glass/cardboard.
Next tape or hot glue down the fabric.  I suggest doing both of the sides first and then the two ends.  Make sure to wrap the fabric nice and tightly.
Now you can tape the ribbon on.  I did mine at an angle but you can also do them up and down or left to right, or both!
Here's what the front looked like before I put it in the frame.
And here's the finished product! It turned out pretty cute (if I do say so myself!)
I used painters tape so that if I wanted to use the frame later in life I could just disassemble the whole thing but you can definitely use hot glue as well!

Sick Baby

I've got a sick baby over here tonight- ear infection and some congestion going on. I will be back tomorrow with a fun "Nap Time Craft Time" project!

My new favorite place...

While we were in Delaware visiting Grandma she took Everett and I over to Lavender Fields in Milton. To say I LOVED it there would be an understatement!  It is so nice and relaxing there. It really got me thinking that it was something that Tyler and I could do later in life. I had no idea that lavender was such a versatile plant! You can use it in so many things- lotion, soap, etc.

Here are a few pictures that I took and edited in Instagram

Fun at Fun Land

Today was a big day for my little guy! Today he got to ride the rides at Fun Land in Rehoboth Beach. Everett and I have been at Grandma's house the past few days and we decided to venture out to "the boards" to get a Nicoboli and to hit up Fun Land.

I have been coming to visit Grandma since Tyler and I started dating (in 2004) and can remember thinking "one day I'll have a baby and I'll bring him to visit Grandma and then one day he'll be big enough to ride the rides at Fun Land..." I don't think I realized that "one day" would come so fast!

He really seemed to enjoy the rides especially once he figured out how to ring the bells, push the buttons, etc.  Everyone that saw him would say "awww" and talk to him.  He was definitely the star of the show!
