Nap Time Craft Time: Baby Supply Kit

Whenever I have a friend who is expecting a baby I want to give her something that I know will come in handy once her little one arrives.  These are items that I found were "must haves" for me when Everett was a newborn and I think are things that all new mothers can use.  You can easily pick most of these items up at your local drug, grocery, or super store and throw them into a nice basket while the kiddos are sleeping- voila, Nap Time Craft Time! :)

Just a side note, I asked Tyler what some "must haves" he thought should be added to the list and he said coffee... yes, that is a nice one to have on hand too!

What you'll need
A&D Ointment- I love this stuff! It is really easy to apply so slather it on and prevent those diaper rashes!  It's also great for dry skin and for tattoos! :)  (If you or the person you are purchasing this for uses cloth diapers you don't want to get this as it is not good for cloth diapers!)
Baby Q Tips- Pretty self explanatory.  The baby ones are a must because they prevent you from accidentally sticking it too far into their ears.
Cuticle Scissors-  Those baby nail clippers may be cute as can be but they do not work on the thin baby fingernails.  I picked up a pair of these cuticle scissors on a whim after Everett used them for at least his whole first year.
Disinfecting Wipes- These are so handy to have especially when you are on the go.  You can wipe down shopping carts, public changing tables, highchairs, tables at restaurants, etc.
Gas Drops- Poor Mr. Everett has encountered many problems with gas and these have been a lifesaver.  He actually liked how they tasted so it was not a hard task to get him to take it!
Hand Sanitizer- This is a nice thing to have around just in case there isn't a sink available and you need to get your hands clean.
Lanolin- This may be “awkward” to give to someone but they will come in handy!  Breastfeeding sucks (no pun intended) at first and this will definitely help to ease the pain.  Breastfeeding should be a great bonding experience and it is hard to do that when you're in pain!
Nose Frida- Gross in concept but it works wonders.  This snot sucker works so much better than the traditional bulb suckers that you get in the hospital.

Rectal Thermometer- While this doesn't sound too pleasant it is the best way to get an accurate temperature on your infant.  The kind we have (pictured) is shorter in length and it reads the temperature in only a few seconds.
Saline Spray- Everett had some congestion and the pediatrician instructed me to use saline spray.  It helps to break up the mucous and lets him breathe much easier.
Vaseline- This comes in handy for mother of little boy's who are circumcised because it helps the circumcision heal.  (Ouch!)

Thompson Number Two: Week 32

Weight gained to date: Not sure, going to the doc on Wednesday

Estimated size of baby:  Head of lettuce (19 inches long, 3.9 lbs)

Foods I am craving Water. I guess that's not really a food but I have been very thirsty this past week.

How I am feeling: Good for the most part. I have had a few sleepless nights this week so that is always frustrating but sometimes I am able to catch up on my sleep when E naps.  I had a really bad charley horse in the middle of the night a few days ago and my calf is still hurting!  They are a common occurrence in pregnancy but I never had them with Everett so this is new territory for me.  (And before you suggest that I eat bananas, let me just tell you that I don't like them!!)

I can't believe how fast this pregnancy is going! In just 6 to 10 weeks I could be holding our little dude! Crazy talk! Hopefully it will warm up sometime soon so I can wear the cute sleeveless maternity shirts and shorts that I have!

Letters to Everett: 3/22/13

Dear Everett,

You are 22 months old!  It is so hard to believe that in just two short months you will be turning two years old!  Although there are often moments where you like to test me, I have enjoyed every single minute of the past 22 months!

This month you have really started to show us your personality a lot more.  You love (love) love cars, trains, and anything with wheels.  One of your favorite things to do is to push your cars across the floor and crash them into things!  It is really fun to watch your little imagination at work.  Your daddy taught you how to "cheers" drinks but you really enjoy "cheers-ing" everything from cars to forks to cups!

You are talking more and surprising us with the words you know!  You still point and grunt like a caveman but we are trying to teach you the words for the things that you want.  We are learning animal sounds, colors, numbers, and letters.  You like to sing but I think the only song you remember is part of the alphabet song, so you repeat the letters  "Q, R, S" a lot! :)
We took you to a Caps game this month and you LOVED it! You really enjoy watching sports and cheering on mommy and daddy's favorite teams!

Another thing that you love is when people react to smelling your feet.  You will laugh so hard that your face turns red!  You really get a kick out of it and so do we!

Here's what you've been up to this month:
  • Started singing "Q, R, S" when we sing the alphabet song
  • Leaned the sign for grapes, horse
  • Like to growl and "scare" people
  • Like to buckle yourself into the carseat and get mad if we do it for you
  • Your favorite thing to do is "cheers, cheers, cheers"
  • Started calling the baby "Cookie"
  • Went to your first Caps game
  • Switched to size 5 diapers

Here's the new words you've been saying:

  • yuv (love) you
  • ter-tle (turtle)
  • Gaht (Scott)
  • oh oh ah ah (monkey)
  • whale
  • bubble
  • hun-hee (honey)
  • coh-key (coffee)
  • flower
Momma and daddy love you to the moon and all the way back!

xoxoxox,
Momma

Rest in Peace Mowgli

Flyer that was circulated around

This past weekend our frisky and fun loving dog Mowgli left this world to go to doggy heaven.  We let him outside to go to the bathroom on Saturday night and when he didn't come back right away we started getting concerned.  We don't have a fence in our backyard and although our property is pretty large he did enjoy chasing squirrels and frolicking around in the woods behind our house.  What we assume happened is that he was running and playing around and got lost in the woods.

We stayed home from church (we watched it live on the laptop) Sunday morning so we could make phone calls and get the word out that he was missing.  I called animal control as well as put up "flyers" on Facebook and Craigslist.  About two hours after the flyers went up I got "the phone call," you know the phone call that you don't want to get in situations like this.  A very nice and very concerned man (we will call him John) was on the other end of the line and he informed me that he saw Mowgli running around his neighborhood on Saturday night.  John said he tried to get him to come to him but Mowgli was a little too skiddish and ran away.  (Side note: I think that this was a "normal" Mowgli reaction, as he wasn't a fan of men and would have most likely run away if anyone tried to approach him.)  At that point John and his wife got a flashlight and went out looking for him but they weren't able to find him.  I could tell that John was starting to get a little apprehensive about what he was going to say next and knew that what was coming was not good news.  He said that when he and his wife went out Sunday morning they saw Mowgli again but he had been struck by a car.  They stopped to see if he was breathing but he had already passed on.

As terrible as it was to hear that my puppy, our family member, had been in this accident I am so thankful for that man and his wife for taking the time to try to catch Mowgli, for taking the time to look up the "lost dog" ads, and for taking the time to call and inform me of the news.  We could have gone on not knowing what happened to him and constantly worrying where he was, if he was safe, etc.

Tyler went and picked up Mowgli, (he was about a mile away) brought him home, and laid him to rest in the back yard.  We plan on planting some type of evergreen tree or bush out there as well as putting up a cross.

It was a very rough weekend and it's hard to get used to Mowgli not being in the house.  I saw a quote on Facebook about dogs, it said: "Dogs are like children that never grow up, they are in constant need of protection."  That is such a true thought and I know that there are all sorts of "what ifs" that are going through Tyler and I's minds right now.  It's hard to not blame yourself for what has happened but we have to accept that life will go on.

Thank you to all of the family and friends who have offered their love and support during this time.  I know it sounds silly to mourn the loss of a dog but Mowgli was definitely more than that to us.  He was a constant companion and truly man's best friend.  We will always remember how much he loved to lick people, to be petted, and to always be in your lap.

Enjoy some photo's of Mowgli throughout his short but sweet lifetime.

Come One, Come All!

Hanging up posters!
A few friends and I had a multi-family garage sale this past weekend and it was a great success! This was the first time I have hosted and even participated in a garage sale so I was a little nervous about how it was going to go.  I did a little research about what I needed to do in order to make sure that people showed up and actually bought the stuff I was selling.  Young House Love has a great post about hosting a yard sale, here.  The biggest thing is to advertise your sale.  I posted an advertisement in the local newspaper, Craigslist, and on facebook.  Additionally, Tiphany and I hung up signs and balloons around the area the day of the garage sale.

The main goal, for me was to get the items out of the house and any money that I made would definitely be a bonus.  Since Flubber is going to be here sooner than later I really have started cleaning out all of our nooks and crannies in order to de-clutter and make more room for any new stuff that may be making its way into our house.
The front of the drive way
We tried to place our items up on tables so that when people were browsing they didn't have to get down on the ground to check anything out.  I did place some toys and things on a sheet on the ground so that it any kiddos that came by would be able to see them.  We also placed all the larger and bulkier items together up toward the front of the drive way so that they could be seen from the road.
Sonja's "station" on the side of the driveway
We also made sure to let people know that we were willing to negotiate the prices of our items.  Overall it was a successful garage sale!  We had a great turnout (people started showing up before we were even set up) and sold a lot of our items! :)

Ways He Loves Me: March 2013

I wanted to compile a list of the ways that Everett shows me he loves me for those times when he is driving me crazy being a little more needy than usual.  I also want to be able to look back and remember these moments.

I am hoping to continue to add to this throughout the years and see how the ways that he shows me he loves me has evolved.
  • He snuggles with me when he wakes up in the morning
  • He laughs when I "smell" his feet and say "pee-yew"
  • He wants me to hold him when he is sad
  • He blows me kisses
  • He gives me kisses
  • He doesn't let me leave his sight (even for a minute)
  • He gets excited when he sees me
  • He runs to give me hugs
  • He laughs when I am being silly
  • He wants me to "sit here" and play with him
  • He wants to share everything with me

Thompson Number Two: Week 29

Weight gained to date: 14 lbs

Estimated size of baby:  Small cabbage (17 inches long, 2.9 lbs)

Foods I am craving:  Slurpees!  Tyler was sweet and took me to 7-11 last night to get one!! :)

How I am feeling: I am getting bigger by the minute- but I guess that's how this whole pregnancy thing works! :) I do feel more at ease now that I am farther along and know that if for some reason I went into labor that everything would most likely be okay.  I am having more trouble sleeping these days but that is to be expected! :)

Good Morning!!

I LOVE this song! It is the perfect way for me to start my day off right! It is a fun and upbeat song that instantly puts me in a good mood as soon as I hear it! Is there anything that you need to wake up and be in a happy mood?
Happy Friday y'all! I hope you have a blessed day!
